Facing Your Natural Beauty During Dry Winter Months

  • Soothing Lemon & Honey Mask – Combine the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon with two tablespoons of organic raw honey and apply to the face with a gentle touch. After twenty minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a rinse with cool water. The acid and natural vitamin C of the lemon juice combined with the humectant and naturally healing action of the honey moisturizes and heals winter skin, while helping it look more luminous.
  • Invigorating Yogurt & ACV Mask – Combine two tablespoons organic plain yogurt with one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar and apply to your freshly washed face. After twenty minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a final rinse with cool water. This mask helps moisturize and brighten dull winter skin, while providing an exfoliating action and helping to refine your pores.
  • Exfoliating Oatmeal, Honey and Olive Oil Mask – Soak a handful of organic oatmeal in hot water for twenty minutes. When cool to the touch, add one tablespoon each of organic raw honey and extra virgin olive oil and mix vigorously with a fork. Using a very light touch and a circular motion, scrub the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin with this mixture, while avoiding the eye area. Rise thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a cooler rinse. This mask both exfoliates and moisturizes, to help brighten the skin and leave it with a fresh, dewy texture.

In addition to these masks, remember that many of the healthful, organic foods that you enjoy consuming are also incredibly nourishing when applied to your skin. The Water Connection

The cold weather and shorter days of winter conspire to make us less active than we may be during the warmer months. This means we may not feel as thirsty as usual, resulting in a sharp decrease in the amount of water and fluids we take in.

In addition, when we are thirsty we may reach for hot beverages, such as tea and coffee that contain caffeine. Since caffeine can act like a diuretic, our bodies can more easily become dehydrated, causing our skin, eyes, nails and even our hair to feel dry and uncomfortable.

Using water correctly will help keep your body from becoming dehydrated and help keep it healthy and happy. Here are some tips to try:

  • Hot baths and showers feel good, but they rob your skin of natural oils and pave the way for dry skin problems. Combat this by lowering the temperature of the water when bathing and avoid soaking for more than a few minutes to keep natural moisture from being washed away.
  • Add extra humidity to your home or office with a portable humidifier.
  • Up your water intake.
  • Eat more brothy soups and drink more juice and herbal teas in winter to add more hydration in a delicious, healthful way.

Change Your Skin Care Routine

Once you have addressed the problem of hydration, it is time to concentrate on skin care from the outside in and coconut oil is an excellent place to begin.
