Wintertime is tough on your skin. This is especially true for facial skin that is constantly either exposed to bitterly cold outdoor air or the dry, over-heated indoor air. Over time, facial skin feels tight, itchy and even chapped because the body cannot keep up with its need for moisture.
In addition to feeling uncomfortable, winter conditions can be incredibly aging. If your face is feeling the ravages of winter, try these homemade facial masks to restore moisture and improve the texture and resilience of your skin.
- Soothing Lemon & Honey Mask – Combine the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon with two tablespoons of organic raw honey and apply to the face with a gentle touch. After twenty minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a rinse with cool water. The acid and natural vitamin C of the lemon juice combined with the humectant and naturally healing action of the honey moisturizes and heals winter skin, while helping it look more luminous.
- Invigorating Yogurt & ACV Mask – Combine two tablespoons organic plain yogurt with one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar and apply to your freshly washed face. After twenty minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a final rinse with cool water. This mask helps moisturize and brighten dull winter skin, while providing an exfoliating action and helping to refine your pores.
- Exfoliating Oatmeal, Honey and Olive Oil Mask – Soak a handful of organic oatmeal in hot water for twenty minutes. When cool to the touch, add one tablespoon each of organic raw honey and extra virgin olive oil and mix vigorously with a fork. Using a very light touch and a circular motion, scrub the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin with this mixture, while avoiding the eye area. Rise thoroughly with lukewarm water, followed by a cooler rinse. This mask both exfoliates and moisturizes, to help brighten the skin and leave it with a fresh, dewy texture.
In addition to these masks, remember that many of the healthful, organic foods that you enjoy consuming are also incredibly nourishing when applied to your skin.
