New Year Resolution: Think Green

Many often use the New Year as an opportunity to start fresh. This occasion is typically marked by a series of “New Years Resolutions,” almost all of which are intended to help someone become a better person in some important way. Many people choose to use January 1 as an opportunity to stop smoking, for example, or to eat healthier throughout the year. While your own personal health is certainly important, you should always keep in mind that the health and well being of your home should always be an equal priority. You should use one of your New Years resolutions as an opportunity to think green when it comes to your home in a few key ways. It will make a significant impact almost immediately.

Many people think that using green cleaning products or techniques is either too difficult, too costly or a combination of both. The reality of the situation, however, couldn’t be farther from that point of view. Not only is thinking green when it comes to your house cleaning easy and effective, but it also works in a really dramatic way.

One of the best ways to “think green” in the New Year is to use all-natural ingredients for cleaning. Not only can you save a significant amount of money by making these types of products at home versus buying them in the store, but they’re also often better than their store purchased alternatives in a number of ways. These natural products won’t harm fragile surfaces in your home like granite, for example, and are also safe for any pets that may be running around.

Another one of the most important benefits of thinking green throughout the New Year has to do with doing your part to benefit the environment. These types of sustainable practices help conserve our natural resources and habitats. It has been proven that even these small steps can reduce our carbon footprint in a very dramatic way, which will ultimately go a long way towards leaving this world in a better condition than the one it was in when we found it.

People lead busy lives – that much is fact. Just because you’re thinking green with regards to how you’re cleaning your home doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the time to do so. We completely understand. That’s why you should always know that you can hire Mopfrog for all of your professional green cleaning needs. Not only will we come in and make sure that your home is always looking its best, but we’ll also use the same type of green cleaning techniques to accomplish just that. You’ll get all of the benefits of a green cleaning initiative and you’ll thankfully have to expel none of the energy in the process.

One of the most important elements in your life is your home. While you’re using the opportunity that the New Year represents to look for ways to improve your personal life, you can do the same to help improve your home as well. By making just a few key modifications to your normal routine and committing yourself to using green practices and products, you can go a long way towards creating a better home for everyone inside.

Why Use Mopfrog?

Cleaning your home on your own can be something of an uphill battle, even during the best of times. You have to manage all of your household chores along with your admittedly busy schedule. This is difficult during regular periods in the year, to say nothing of the challenge that it certainly represents when you’re getting ready for the holidays or are trying to clean up after all of your friends and family members have come and gone.

Instead of trying to tackle your entire home on your own, you can leave it to the experts at Mopfrog. We use state of the art equipment to get your home looking not just as good as new, but also healthier.

The multilevel HEPA filtration vacuum cleaners that we use, for example, are Carpet and Rug Institute Certified. These certifications and approvals are important because it means that we’re using only the safest, most effective tools to remove and clean dust, dirt, bacteria and other obstructions from your home.

At Mopfrog, we also pride ourselves on using a wide variety of different green cleaning solutions and techniques that bring with them their own important benefits. For starters, green cleaning solutions are from naturally derived ingredients, are non-hazardous to humans and the environment, and clean your home just as well, if not better than their chemically intensive counterparts. If you are a pet owner, for example, green solutions won’t harm your furry friends and will allow your house to sparkle at the same time.

There are also a number of important health benefits that go along with green cleaning techniques that you really should know more about. If you have allergies, for example, our trained and talented professionals at Mopfrog will make sure that the air quality in your home is fresh and pure and that all airborne allergens and pathogens are a thing of the past.

They say, “Home is where the heart is,” which is why it is always so important to make sure that your home is not only looking its absolute best, but is also safe. Your home is where you spend a huge amount of your time. It’s where you come to unwind after a hard day at work or school. House Cleaning After Being Sick

Despite your best efforts to prevent it, colder temperatures mark the season for nasty colds and the flu. No matter how well you quarantine sick family members, germs and viruses can spread through a household like a wildfire. That’s why it’s important to give your home a thorough cleaning after illness strikes. However, you don’t have to resort to chemically based sanitizing sprays, harsh disinfectants and cleaners. There are many green cleaning options that are just as effective at ridding your home of contagions. Here are the spots to focus your cleaning efforts on and the green cleaning options that can get the job done.

Eco-Friendly Cleaners

Antimicrobial cleaners are used to eliminate or suppress the growth of harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses on inanimate objects and surfaces. For a safe a healthy cleaning option, sanitize surfaces throughout your home with a spray bottle filled with distilled white vinegar. If the scent of vinegar isn’t appealing, add several drops of tea tree oil, which is well recognized for it’s antiseptic and disinfecting properties. Lavender, peppermint and lemon essential oils are also known to have antimicrobial properties and are effective at killing germs. Hydrogen peroxide is also a safe, all natural and effective sanitize, especially for use in kitchen and bathrooms.

Wash Bedding

While the patient is sick, wash and replace linens and towels as frequently as possible. Once symptom free, one of the first steps should be to wash all bedding, blankets and pillowcases that the sick individuals came into contact with. This includes any throws on the living room couch or stuffed animals that gave little ones comfort. Wash these items in the hottest water recommended by their tags and place them in the dryer, if permissible, to allow the heat to kill any remaining germs.

Contaminated Surfaces

Some surfaces in the home spread germs more easily than others because people touch them more often. Items such as doorknobs, light switches, remote controls and drawer handles can harbor germs. To help prevent the spread of germs, wipe these areas down using eco-friendly cleaners and a microfiber cloth. Similarly, sanitize your children’s toys with a vinegar-water solution, especially that they had contact with while ill. Don’t forget other commonly touched locations, like table lamp switches, cell phones, computer keyboards, refrigerator handles and buttons on microwave.

Lastly, since germs can get everywhere when you have a sick patient, wash hands frequently. No matter which type of soap is used, experts recommend washing hands for at least twenty seconds or comparable to singing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.

Bathroom Hygiene

Bathrooms are often germ infested. Accordingly, it is that much more important to clean bathroom surfaces daily when someone in the house is sick. Wipe down all counters and sinks with hydrogen peroxide or vinegar and water solution. Once a week, to thoroughly clean tubs and showers, add a little baking soda to the hydrogen peroxide to create a mildly abrasive scrub. Towels can also harbor bacteria. In addition to laundering frequently, family members should have their own dedicated towel and washcloth.

Trash Cans

It is crucial to line garbage cans with a plastic bag in order to contain the mess and make for easy disposal. Make it a point to frequently take out the trash while family members are sick. Before inserting a new trash bag, disinfect the inside and outside of the can by wiping it down with your choice of non-toxic cleaner, such as a vinegar and water solution or hydrogen peroxide.
